MARINE SCIENCE PROGRAMS

Hands-on marine education for students, volunteers, travelers & aspiring conservationists.

Our marine science programs integrate real-world fieldwork with community outreach and conservation research. Participants learn in and out of the water, gaining the knowledge, tools, and inspiration to protect our oceans.

Citizen Science Internship Program

Hands-on marine conservation and professional diving development in Costa Rica.

Looking for a meaningful gap year, internship, or field experience? Our 3-month and 6-month Citizen Science Internships are immersive training programs where you’ll dive daily, collect marine data, earn dive certifications, and support local community programs like Swim Safe Costa Rica and Sustainable Fisheries Initiatives.

Participate in marine research dives

You don’t need a background in science or diving to participate. All we ask is that you bring curiosity, motivation, and a good attitude. Programs are taught in English, and we welcome applicants from around the globe.

MARINE SCIENCE PROGRAMS

Shark AWARE
& Fish ID Courses

Specialty PADI programs that teach divers how to identify species and understand shark conservation. These courses support data gathering used in regional protection plans and MPAs.

Mangrove & Estuary Ecology

Through field trips to Las Baulas National Park, students learn about mangrove ecosystems and their vital role in coastal protection, nursery habitats, and biodiversity.

Ocean to Table (Marine + Fisheries Integration)

ConnectOcean works with local fishers to teach regenerative fishing methods. Participants use data-logging tools to assess catch sustainability and understand the importance of responsible seafood practices.

YOUTH OUTREACH

We believe ocean literacy starts early. Our youth outreach programs make marine science fun, engaging, and memorable for children and teens in local communities and visiting schools.

Discover Life Between the Tides

Step into the dynamic world of the intertidal zone with our Intertidal Explorer experience—an immersive, family-friendly adventure along the shores of Playa Danta and Playa Dantita. Guided by one of ConnectOcean’s expert Marine Life Specialists, you’ll explore tide pools and rocky reefs across five distinct tidal zones, cataloging marine species as part of our Citizen Science Project.

Perfect for budding biologists, curious families, or ocean lovers of all ages, this experience blends beach exploration, marine education, and hands-on conservation. Using species ID guides, magnifying glasses, and snorkeling gear, you’ll identify and document fascinating intertidal organisms, contributing your observations to our Citizen Science Database.

Guided Boat Tour Through Las Baulas
